The bridge about 3 miles in from highway 22 has a large parking area. Shortens the trip a little, you miss Barbel and Woo-man-chew. Otherwise down by the Upper Arm day use site. Pay a fee at upper arm or find road parking.

   Run Description [Season: ]

Beautiful river about 100 miles southwest of Portland. It has a ton of rapids that would be named on any other river. Here there are just too many. These III, III+ can be boat scouted or read and run. When I ran it at around 1,000 cfs the rapids were always engaging my attention and the scenery just melted into my brain. Thankfully the more difficult rapids are easy to scout and spot. If you see a horizon line, you may want to get out and look. The first named rapid is the Slot. It comes up super early in the trip. My first time down the 'bush I walked around the Slot, simply because I didn't feel warmed up enough. There is a ledge that you want to boof off of center left. After the ledge, the river narrows down into a narrow passage for about 100 feet. After the slot (couple of rapids between) comes the Notch. The line is fairly obvious at the levels I've seen (650-1000) Center Right off the ledge. Alot of River miles pass between the Notch and the next named Rapid, Sharons drop. Between the quot;namesquot; read the River, and Paddle hard! Those holes can be sticky. Sharons drop can come up suddenly, and at higher flows there isn't anywhere to eddy out if it comes up quick. I Probed the drop unwillingly at 1,000 (+/-) because there wasn't anywhere to go but downstream. I stayed left and was fine. It looked like there was a nice boof flake center left at 650. You have to be downstream to see it, and I didn't actually take it. After Sharons drop there are a few more rapids that feel pretty mellow by this time.... If you take out at the bridge, you miss Woo-man-Chew, and the currently (March 2007) woodchoked Barbel. If Barbel was runnable, I would say keep going, otherwise you may want to just get out at the bridge.
